Genoa (Genova) is a historic port city and the capital of Italy’s Liguria region. Once a powerful maritime republic, it played a key role in Mediterranean trade for centuries.
Visitors can explore the Old Town (Centro Storico), one of Europe’s largest medieval quarters, known for its narrow alleys (caruggi), charming squares, and the impressive Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its distinctive striped façade and frescoed interior.
At the heart of the city lies Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a well-known fountain and the Teatro Carlo Felice opera house. Genoa is also home to the Palazzi dei Rolli, a group of grand Renaissance and Baroque palaces recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The revitalized waterfront includes attractions such as the Aquarium of Genoa, one of the largest in Europe, and the Porto Antico, a lively area with restaurants, shops, and cultural venues—perfect for relaxing after a day of conference sessions.
PhD students attending the conference can attend the 25th CINet PhD Workshop for free.
